And then right before they go to my dad’s budget, they get unreasonably expensive for some reason.
1.) 997 GT3 RS. (I remember seeing a blue/red one under $100,000 and I expected for it to be around $90k the year later. Soon after that, all the GT3 RSes jumped to over $120,000.)
2.) Acura NSX (Last Generation) (I’M SORRY CRAZY AUTOTRADER SELLER, THERE IS NOTHING MINT ABOUT 143,000 MILES)
Has there been any other cars that this happened. (I can imagine 993s in general.)

To a much lesser extend, Austin Mini everywhere in Europe. I bought mine for 1700€ in 2013. Same one will go for 5000€ today...
Also thx to americans, prices of R32 GTR are now on average higher than R33 GTR here in Japan lol. Still MUCH cheaper than what you find in the US (you can find good looking low mileage R32 for less than 10k$), but nowhere near as cheap as 2 years ago (5 to 6000$ for the cheaper ones)

Yeah there are a lot, but with americans buying so many of them, prices at auctions went up quite a bit... I think I may get a R33 GTR now, because they are so cheap and in 2020, I’ll probably sell it for 3 times as much as I payed for it to some US buyer so...
I don’t even like the car much, but it’s a good investment...

Probably not as much as R32 or R33... They were priced quite high for the time and are still fairly recent. R33 GTR are for some reason less loved than R32 and R34. But 45000 R32 GTR were made, 15000 R33 GTR and a bit oer 10000 R34...
R32 are loved but there are a lot—>low price but quite high considering how many were produced
R33 are not loved that much but there are fewer—> low price but not that low coz stil quite rare
R34 are loved and few have been made —> high price all the way.
My money is on the R33 GTR. It will be rare on US soil and american wannabe ricers will want them like crazy. Small supply though —> high prices to come up on it.

I didn’t know that the R34 had always been expensive. Now would be the time for me to get a R33..

Base Opel Speedsters in Belgium. They used to be €15-17k about 8 months ago, but now most of the available stock has been bought by a single dealer, who singlehandedly raised prices to €18-22k. In other words, they went from used NC MX-5 to Elise S1 levels, at which point the Opel loses its value proposition (which shows, since they aren’t selling at all anymore).

As one of those R32 buying Americans, i agree about pricing.
My first came from Japan, the 2nd came from the Vancouver area. The first one cost after import nearly 10k. The 2nd, was one that needed some body work done and a little bit of interior work to be 100%.
Imported one for a friend to have his exact car he bought and loved in Japan. The 2nd is currently getting both front seats reupolstered.
Once it gets done its done, the dash needs replaced. Found a good crack free one with a tiny bit of the pad being loose in its normal spot.
Then its being sold. Already have a buyer for it. Its a black GTR with r34 Nismo wheels with just over 51k kms it. This was specifically bought, imported, and be sold. Itll be going to Florida once its done. I put it on Bring a trailer and got a bunch of ricers trying to trade beat up high mileage civics.
Then some guy emailed, i talked to him for a little bit, he flew up, looked at it. I told him what needed done and then its done. He paid cash upfront for transport, all the work, and the car. Made 7k on it.
Ill drive it for a week to make sure mechanicals are good before it goes to him. At least this guy was serious about, and was an older guy who bought one new when he lived in Japan.

Nah the GTS is not a GTR... And as stupid as it is, the badge plays a lot in why prices climb this high for it... GTS are fucking cheap here... like ridiculous (3000$ or so...)

Yeah, even in Japan, average price seems to be around 35k$ which is quite insane in this country for a car that’s this old...

So you’re rthe one responsible for prices going up on R32 huh?? :)
Kidding, I actually wouldn’t even consider one if it wasn’t a good investment so... If you don’t mind me asking... how much did you sell that R32 for ?

Actually to go a bit more into details... I want to own cars. Fun cars... LOTS of cars. It’s pretty much what I live for right now lol. But for that I need money. I can’t buy a cheap Skyline if I do that. I need the top of the top and I need to make money out of it when I sell it... It’s the only way I can own many car without being born with a golden spoon in my mouth.
So if I get a car skyline, it has to be a GTR and no other. Otherwise I would lose money on it when I resale.
Trying to enjoy cars without losing money is not easy and MAKING money out of cars you keep for a longish time is even harder. I can only buy good investments ;)

In 2021 10k$ will probably get you a GTST R34, shipped to the US if you buy it directly from Japan on auction

In Japan it cost me at auction 6500, shipping was free(had a friend bring it back as his car thru the military, so they paid for it), misc US paperwork was another 1000.
All the work(provided estimates are pretty close) 3500.
I put it up for 20k, guy who bought it paid 18k in cold hard 100 bills. It was on Bring a trailer for 3 days.
Before any trolls say anything, the air force will pay to bring back a car if you didnt store one thru them. So i have a friend who sourced it at auction, drove it for a 2 weeks, brought it back with RO RO shipping. Once it cleared customs, i gave him the money for it and a little more to thank him for free roro shipping.
I have 11k in a 90GT R.
This is the 2nd. Once r33s can come ill grab 2 and a container, and do the same again.
Trying to build up some money to eventually import a Toyota Jzx90 Mark 2 Tourer V.( 4dr supra) and have it paid for.
That’s my plan at least. Maybe if everything goes fine, ill grab a 34 ifi can to sell.
SO. far, fingers crossed ive had zero issue with roro shipping. Its a little cheaper, than container is. Container is a little more expensive but its more secure for the car being shipped. At least what ive learned so far.
The first 32 came thru Miami, the 2nd came thru Baltimore. The Bmore guys were pretty helpful.

Fortunately, prices in the US have not really appreciated. As time goes on, newer and better (?) Minis become eligible for import, so prices have remained pretty flat lately.
When I was looking for a Mini, I found a rusty but running LHD Canadian import for $3500 (obo). A friend bought it, fixed it up into a strong runner, and still only asked something like $4500. Another person I know just sold a solid, strong runner for around $8500. Not original, but there are still great deals out there in the US. You just have to hunt a little bit and know what you want (and what you’re willing to fix).

Of course! It depends on your region quite a bit, and if you’re in a colder climate it depends on the season, too. I feel like I was able to make a better deal because I bought my Mini a couple weeks before it had to go into winter storage. If you’re looking in spring, asking prices will probably be noticeably higher. Regardless, be realistic and you’ll find a deal eventually!

Early 70s Alfa GTVs have nearly doubled in price in the last few years. It was pretty common to see them for $10-15k not that long ago, but one in a non-original color and with a bunch of mods just went on BaT for $29,500. Very disappointing.
